The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication (HDSHC) welcomes all Barrett students!  Whether you are a communication major, minor, or taking our classes as electives, we would like to make your experience fit with your plans and needs as a Barrett student.

Each Honors student in the Hugh Downs School selects a program of study that mixes core requirements and electives. This program of study is best developed with time spent discussing your interests and dreams with your advisors, keeping in mind anything special that you would possibly like to pursue an Honors thesis. By coordinating your advising between your COM advisors, Barrett advisors, and your Faculty Honors Advisor, you can assure your experience will be smooth and exactly what you need as a Barrett major in the HDSHC.

Information for our Honors majors regarding Honors Enrichment Contracts, thesis planning, and course registration, selecting a thesis advisor/director, and much more, is available on a website created especially for Barrett students in the HDSHC. It is especially important for anyone approaching the dates for early and regular submission of your thesis prospectus to read this website carefully.

The Faculty Honors Advisor for the HDSHC is Dr. Sarah Amira de la Garza.  She is available to meet with you to help you answer questions about your Honors experience and requirements as students and majors in communication, and you may contact her by email at delagarza@asu.edu.  Feel free to write her with questions, or ask to schedule an appointment where you can discuss your interests and concerns.
