Program Details
Appropriate internships involve applying communication skills in interpersonal, organizational, or public settings. Examples include roles in:
- Marketing
- Public relations
- Human resources
- Group facilitation
- Other professional environments that require strong communication skills
Internship credit guidelines:
- 160 hours during the semester = 3 ASU credit hours
- 320 hours = 6 ASU credit hours
- Interns are not required to be paid, but paid internships often attract more students
The Internship Program does not directly place students or sponsors. However, if an organization wishes to offer recurring internship opportunities, its Application for Internship Approval will be posted for students to view. Students are responsible for contacting sponsors directly.
Requirements for Sponsoring Organizations
To offer an internship to students in the Hugh Downs School, please follow these steps:
- Email a brief job description to Dr. Kristin Dybvig at [email protected].
- After review (typically within 2–5 weeks), you will receive a response. Some adjustments to duties may be requested.
- Once approved, the internship will be posted for students. Interested students will contact you directly.
- Interview applicants and select your intern.
- Upon hiring, the intern will provide additional paperwork for you to complete. If you'd like to review these materials in advance, please contact Dr. Dybvig-Pawelko.
If you’ve already hired an intern and need the required paperwork, please ask the student to provide it from our internal website.
