Kindness and the Good Society

Dr. William Hamrick, Visiting Scholar

Dr. Hamrick, author of Kindness and the Good Society, will discuss the relationship between kindness and social justice and explain their roles in creating a practical wisdom for good citizenship. He also will explore their influence on the communication difficulties experienced by contemporary U.S. Americans across economic and political lines, with a special focus on current immigration issues.

William HamrickDr. Hamrick earned his doctorate at Vanderbilt University and was a professor at Southern Illinois University until 2005. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the British Society for Phenomenology, and he remains a Member of the Editorial Board of the Society’s journal. In 2016 he was the principal and co-editor of, as well as contributor to, Merleau-Ponty and the Art of Perception (2016) as well as the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the International Colloquium of North American Phenomenologists (ICNAP) at Arizona State University.
