If you are interested in supporting our School, you can do so by contributing to our General Fund. The general fund supports special events, guest speakers, expands programs and research opportunities.

Undergraduate and Graduate Student Scholarships

The Clark D. Olson Forensic Scholarship - The Clark Olson Forensic Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 when Clark, the Director of Forensics at ASU for 15 years left active coaching, but wanted to leave a living legacy for future participants. To date over 30 of Clark’s colleagues and students have contributed to this fund which seeks to provide scholarship aid for future students in debate and individual events. With just a few more contributions, this fund will become an endowed scholarship and can provide the next generation of forensic students with assistance defraying their college tuition and expenses, something Clark worked tirelessly toward for the over 300 students he coached for 15 years.

The Kristin Bervig Valentine Scholarship - Kristin Bervig Valentine, Professor Emeritus of Communication and Women's Studies at Arizona State University, dedicated her career to research and teaching in performance studies. Hoer former students, colleagues, friends and family established this scholarship in her name in the field of Performance Studies, which has been so central to her career. This scholarship has been awarded annually since 2000 to an undergraduate student who has excelled in performance studies communication classes and made significant contributions to the study of performance through creative activity, scholarship and/or community service.

The Study Abroad Scholarship - Studying and traveling abroad with The Hugh Downs School is often a life-changing experience for students. The 2008 summer study abroad program traveled to England, Scotland, and Ireland. If you would like to assist students in studying abroad, please consider giving to this scholarship.

These awards are announced and presented to the students at the Annual Hugh Downs School Awards Banquet.

How can I support The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication? Consider one of the following options:

• Donate to a Specific Scholarship Fund described above.
• Donate to the School's Scholarship Fund. Your donation will strengthen whichever of the scholarship endowment funds needs support most.
• Donate to the School's General Fund. This fund supports the special initiatives of The Hugh Downs School.
• Donate to the Consortium for Strategic Communication. This fund supports the CSC's ongoing efforts in the global war on terrorism. Its scholarship includes research on improving U.S. performance in strategic communication and public diplomacy and white papers published from that work.
