Summer 2011 RA Positions Available

Summer graduate research assistant positions with the Consortium for Strategic Communication, The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication are now available.


RA Position 1: Text Mining

Seeking one or two motivated and hard working Summer RA’s with preparation in text mining, natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, data mining for a joint research project between CIDSE and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences for quantitative text and discourse analysis project.


Candidates should have programming skills in OO design and implementation using Java / Hadoop / MapReduce, and demonstrable ability to work with various open source NLP and ML tools and libraries. PhD students are preferred.


RA Position 2: Databases, Data Mining and GIS Seeking a motivated and hard working RA’s with preparation in databases, data mining or machine learning for a joint research project between CIDSE and College of Liberal Arts & Sciences for automating various steps in a web mining and discourse analysis process.


Candidates should have programming skills in OO design and implementation using Java, Javascript, HTML, DOM, CSS, Perl, Greasemonkey, PHP, SQL, and MySQL. For MS or PhD students.


Pay Rate: Each position will be at 50% FTE(20 hrs/wk) with an hourly pay of $18 - $20/hr. Tuition waivers and benefits are also included.


Term of employment: May 16, 2011-August 15, 2011 with continuation in Fall based upon good progress in summer.
