Strategic Initiatives and Research Areas
In addition to the traditional teaching and research areas, our faculty has developed transdiciplinary strategic initiatives to address the most pressing global communication issues of our time, including:
Health Communication: creating advances in communication science to forge innovative approaches in health care for all citizens and also helping youth make better decisions about personal choices associated with their own health outcomes.
Conflict Transformation: using communication strategies to manage and overcome conflict in domestic abuse situations as well as reducing road rage, workplace bullying, and ethnic, religious, and racial discrimination.
Project for Wellness and Work-life: developing communication skills capable of balancing the demands of careers and families as well as assisting women who have been away from the workforce to return with improved opportunities for advancement.
Strategic Communication: connecting what we know about persuasion, social influence, message campaigns, and critical strategies to improve our nation's counter-terrorism and public diplomacy efforts.
Innovative Inquiry: promoting the exploration of human communication through developing methodologies, exploring the articulation of innovative epistemologies and creating alternative representations of our questions and findings.
